KUALA LUMPUR – Singaporean singer-actor Aliff Aziz is choosing to maintain a good relationship with Malaysian actress Ruhainies despite their ongoing khalwat (close proximity) court case.

In an interview with Malaysian media, he said there is no reason for any animosity between them.

“People say we need to be distant because of the court case, but I believe that what happened shouldn’t prevent us from communicating as usual,” he said

“We aren’t enemies. There’s no need for us to sulk or argue.”

Aliff, 33, and Ruhainies, 31, were arrested on khalwat charges at a condominium in Kuala Lumpur on March 9. Both pleaded not guilty to the charges at the Federal Territories Syariah High Court in Kuala Lumpur on July 3.

Speaking to reporters outside the courtroom, Aliff said he would give full cooperation for his khalwat trial.

According to mStar, The Star’s Malay-language news portal, Aliff appeared calm while addressing the media and was open to answering questions.

However, he declined to comment on matters involving his former wife, Malaysian artiste Bella Astillah, whom he divorced for the second time on June 13 following his khalwat controversy. The pair, who married in 2016, had previously divorced in 2019 but reconciled shortly after.

“I don’t want to talk about other matters, as I’m worried about others manipulating my statement,” he said.

Ruhainies also refused to address Bella’s claims of being responsible for the breakdown in her marriage with Aliff.

Bella, 30, had blamed Ruhainies for ruining her marriage and causing their two children aged seven and four to lose their father.

Ruhainies said: “This topic is too heavy and isn’t relevant for now... I want to focus on resolving this khalwat case.”

On June 20, Aliff and Ruhainies appeared in court for an extension of the bail bond related to the khalwat case. The trial has been postponed to Oct 12 and the bail bond for both has been extended. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
