Snow Blankets Saudi Arabian Desert: A Rare Phenomenon
November 8, 2024 | 06:34 pm
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The arid desert region of Al-Jawf in Saudi Arabia has been blanketed in snow for the first time in history. The Saudi Arabian Meteorology Department has issued a warning for severe weather conditions in the coming days.
The unexpected snowfall has transformed the barren landscape into a magical winter wonderland. Heavy rain and hailstorms have already impacted the Kingdom, with some areas experiencing a wintery transformation, including mountainous regions covered in snow, according to Khaleej Times as cited by NDTV.
Social media has been abuzz with stunning photos and videos capturing the snow-covered desert.
The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has attributed the recent hailstorms in the region to a low-pressure system originating from the Arabian Sea and extending to Oman. This weather pattern has brought moisture-laden air to typically dry regions, resulting in significant weather changes.
As a result, thunderstorms, hailstorms, and heavy rains have swept across Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Even the most arid regions have experienced heavy rainfall and snowfall, a truly extraordinary occurrence.
The Saudi Arabian Meteorology Department has issued a warning for extreme weather in the coming days. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions and prepare for challenging conditions.
Weather forecasts predict thunderstorms, heavy rains, hailstorms, and strong winds. These conditions can significantly reduce visibility, disrupt travel, and impact daily life. Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution and take appropriate measures in response to this unusual weather event.
