Reports in Italy claim Lega Serie A is against the postponement of Bologna-Milan on Saturday, so three options are on the table, including playing the game behind closed doors or on neutral ground.

Local Bologna authorities announced on Thursday evening that a Serie A match between Bologna and Milan would be postponed due to extreme weather conditions.

In recent days, the Emilia Romagna region has been hit by severe flooding, forcing thousands of families to evacuate.

The Bologna Mayor announced on Thursday that the game would be postponed, but reports in Italy claim such a decision can only be made by the game’s organiser, Lega Serie A, which wants the game to be played.

Both Bologna and Milan play in the Champions League and Coppa Italia, and the Rossoneri will have to postpone another match in January as they’ll be participating in the Supercoppa. Therefore, rescheduling this fixture would be tricky.

For this reason, according to Gazzetta and other sports papers, Lega Serie A is considering two options: playing the game at the Dall’Ara behind closed doors or, if the stadium’s availability is denied, moving the fixture to the Stadio Sinigaglia in Como.

The third and less likely option would be a 3-0 defeat by default for Bologna if the Rossoblu don’t show up for the game following the mayor’s decision. Whatever decision Lega Serie A makes, neither Bologna nor Milan can oppose it.
