Lorenzo Casini, President of the Lega Serie A, has clarified that the rescheduled game between Bologna and Milan is likely to take place in February 2025 rather than January due to both teams’ ongoing commitments in the Champions League, Coppa Italia and the Rossoneri involvement in the Supercoppa Italiana.

The Serie A match between Bologna and Milan, originally due to take place on Saturday, was postponed earlier this week due to recent flooding in the Emilia-Romagna region and warnings of further safety risks.

Due to both teams’ already scheduled fixtures in European and domestic cup competitions, the earliest possible date to play the postponed fixture will be at the end of January.

However, Casini, speaking outside the recent emergency Serie A meeting, confirmed that Bologna-Milan will be played out “Probably in February.”

That means that the involved teams will both have a game in hand in the Serie A standings for over three months until the game is carried out.

Both clubs had differing views on the game’s postponement. Bologna CEO Claudio Fenucci claimed it was the right decision to cancel the game, while Paolo Scaroni of Milan labelled the decision ‘incomprehensible’, as the Rossoneri were prepared to play the game in a number of different venues in multiple different cities.
