West Indian batter Sherfane Rutherford has become a rage in the cricketing circuit ever since he helped the team defeat New Zealand in their ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 fixture earlier on Thursday.

Batting at No. 6, the southpaw produced an exemplary knock of 68 runs off 39 deliveries, with the help of two fours and six sixes, to take the Caribbean side to 149-9 at the end of 20 overs.

Rutherford, 25, debuted for West Indies in T20Is in 2018, before going on to play for the ODI team in 2023. In 2019, he had earned his first Indian Premier League (IPL) cap for the Delhi Capitals (DC).

Over the years, he has played 15 T20Is and three ODIs for the West Indian side. He has slammed 304 runs in 13 T20I innings, averaging 27.64 at a strike rate of 152, with the help of 18 fours and 22 maximums. Largely, he has excelled in his role coming down the batting order to up the scoring ante in the death.

In ODIs, his batting contributions have been compartively limited. He has mustered 72 runs in three matches, batting at an average of 24, and striking at nearly 78. Rurtherford has hit one half-century and scored seven fours with the help of two sixes.

In the IPL, he has batted in nine innings and brought up 106 runs. However, his role in the competition was streamlined into bringing out the big guns with the bat, which reflects in the eight sixes he has hit. To add to that, he has struck three fours as well, which shows that 56.6% of the runs he has scored in the IPL have come through boundaries.

Rutherford is also handy with the ball, having taken a wicket each in his IPL, ODI, and T20I careers respectively. His economy rate in ODIs are the most impressive, standing at six runs per over as of now.
