Ruben Amorim remains tight-lipped about a potential move to Manchester United, stating "nothing is decided" despite Sporting CP confirming United had triggered his release clause. Speaking after Sporting’s 3-1 win over Nacional on Tuesday, Amorim dismissed speculation about an imminent departure but admitted that his future is now in his own hands, leaving fans waiting for his decision.

Ruben Amorim insists "nothing is decided" as speculation intensifies about him taking over as Manchester United manager.

But speaking after his side's 3-1 win over Nacional in the Portuguese League Cup later on Tuesday, Amorim played down suggestions that a deal had been agreed.

"Nothing is decided yet. I don't know if it's the farewell game or not," he told Sport TV.

He later cut a conflicted figure during a press conference as, inevitably, he was bombarded with questions about United - including one quick-fire exchange with an English reporter:

Reporter: "I’ve heard the words Manchester United mentioned quite a few times at this press conference. Could you sum up where we are with the Manchester United move?"

Ruben Amorim: "We have to wait a little bit more, to explain everything I need to explain, and then everything… it will be very clear."

Reporter: "But the club have said that an approach has been made and the compensation fee has been agreed, so it’s now your decision I guess?"

RA: "Yes. That’s what I said. It’s my decision. I will tell everything, so we have to wait. That’s it."

Reporter: "Will you be in the dugout at Old Trafford on Sunday?"

RA: "I don’t know (laughs)."

Amorim added that he plans to be at Sporting training on Wednesday ahead of Friday's clash with Estrela da Amadora in Liga Portugal.

United are searching for a new manager after sacking Erik ten Hag on Monday after their worst ever start to a Premier League campaign.

Amorim, who was heavily linked with the Liverpool job over the summer, has won two league titles with Sporting since taking charge in 2020, including the club’s first in 19 years.
