PETALING JAYA: Former news anchor Suhaimi Sulaiman has been named the director-general of broadcasting.

Television viewers may recognise him as the face of Nightline, which aired on TV3, and the host of Agenda Awani on Astro.

As director-general of broadcasting, he will supervise operations of Radio and TV Malaysia. He succeeds Che Roslan Che Daud who was at the helm since January last year.

In a congratulatory post, communications and digital minister Fahmi Fadzil said Suhaimi, who was previously attached to Astro Awani and Media Prima, had extensive experience in broadcasting and administration.

He hoped Suhaimi, with his expertise, would drive excellence and give a boost to the broadcasting department.

Suhaimi, 61, holds degrees in business administration and has held several key positions in broadcasting and journalism.

He was chairman of Bernama in 2020. He was appointed chief executive of Sarawak Media Group by Sarawak premier Abang Johari Openg in August 2020.

He is also the author of “I Hate Reading the Teleprompter: My 25 Years in Broadcasting”.
