Toll-free highways for Deepavali 2024 on October 29-30; govt pays ...
The works ministry (KKR) has announced that the Malaysian government will be granting toll-free passage for Class 1 (private) vehicles on highways from 12:01am on Tuesday, October 29 to 11:59pm on Wednesday, October 30.
Toll-free passage will be granted at toll plazas nationwide with the exception of those at national borders, which are Bangunan Sultan Iskandar toll plaza and the Tanjung Kupang toll plaza in Johor. This initiative will cost the Malaysian government an estimated RM38 million in compensation paid to highway concession companies, said works minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi in the statement.
Highway users are advised to follow the travel time advisories released by highway operators for the festive season, in order to reduce traffic congestion on the highways during this time, as well as to drive with care, obey all road rules, and take a break to rest when tired.
Motorists are also advised to be prepared for journeys, which includes ensuring that one’s vehicle is in optimal operating condition, that there is sufficient Touch ‘n Go card and eWallet balance, and for those using SmartTags, sufficient batteries.
Highway users may also access CCTV feeds provided by the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) at the LLM website to view highway traffic conditions before starting on their journeys, or contact the highway traffic management centre at 1-800-88-7752 for the latest information, or for assistance on the highway.
