The Hoddle of Coffee: Tottenham Hotspur news and links for ...
good morning!
It’s rained for - what? - five or six weekends in a row now? It’s March, I get it. April, sure. But the first three weekends in May?
Sick of it.
Maybe it’s a blessing. I tell myself, “Fitzie you need an actual day of rest” and then proceed to run five miles, do groceries and walk an additional 20k steps around DC because I refuse to spend $2 on the Metro.
I was better on Saturday. Of course, it poured. Of course, I’m going to run. An easy three-mile saunter down to the Capitol building and back. Then some grocery shopping. And, obviously, I had to watch Oxford City clinch promotion to the Championship.
I spent much of the rest of the day listening to the Grateful Dead, something I’ve been meaning to do for a while. Saturday’s choice? Paris, France, 5/3/72. A good year, and a great box set.
The rainy-day mood was set the night before. Like anyone with a vibrant social life in Washington DC, I went to the bookstore at night. Rummaged through the shelves. And I came home with a copy of As I Lay Dying.
And then I flipped on Big Star’s #1 Record when I got home. Something I hadn’t played in at least a year. I must’ve spun it three times this weekend. So damn good.
Yes, in this one instance I’m kinda glad it rained. And I gave in to the opportunities it was presenting me. That is: relax, fitzie, relax. Then I ran a 10K on Sunday (more on that another day), watched Spurs and watched The Challengers (terrible film).
Next weekend is a bank holiday. Please, give us three sunny days.
