Czech Republic vs Turkey live updates: Euro 2024 match team ...
28' Czech Republic 0-0 Turkey
That is only the second red card of the tournament, after Scotland defender Ryan Porteous was sent off against hosts Germany in the very first match of the tournament.

By the by, is the Czech Republic's first red card at the Euros since 2000 against the Netherlands.

Harsh.
It was milked by Turkey, really, who made the most of it.

Fair enough.
Despite going down to 10 men, Czech Republic continue to be a threat from set-pieces.
Turkey are struggling to deal with the Czech's physicality, and look vulnerable from long throws, deep free-kicks, and corners.
Disaster for the Czechs, as midfielder Barak loses control of ball, over-reaches, and stamps on Ozcan.
It’s a bit unlucky, but it’s a second yellow. First was for a jersey pull on Kadioglu a few minutes before.

Neither in a dangerous area of pitch, and it leaves the Czechs really up against it now.

The first yellow, as I mentioned here, was deserved.
But the second for Antonin Barak was very unfortunate. He had the ball in midfield, Hakan Calhanoglu nudged him from behind and he sort of stumbled into another Turkey player, his foot catching their foot.
The still image would show a boot 'over the top of the ball' on a Turkey player but the context is he was off-balance after being pushed (and probably fouled) by Calhanoglu.
Unfortunately, as it was a second yellow card and not a direct red card, I think that means VAR cannot assess it. He stalks down the tunnel, furious, and rips his shirt off.

Tough.

Wow, the dynamic of this match has completely changed now. Antonin Barak is off.
He's got his second yellow card in nine minutes, and that means a red card.
It looked very harsh.
20' Czech Republic 0-0 Turkey
Ooh, careful, lad.
Jindrich Stanek, who was once on Everton's books, is a good shot-stopper but not one for playing out from the back.
Turkey press him high and he just about gets away with a weak pass to a team-mate which accidentally nutmegs the stretching Guler.
Just bang it clear!

The lanky Czech defender got on the end of a flick-on after a whipped, flat Vladimir Coufal long throw from the right.

But his contact was all wrong and it looped harmlessly over.
Should have hit the target.

Plenty happening early on.
Arda Guler finds a pocket of space 35 yards out or so and runs on goal, the Czechs back off, he lets fly from 25 yards... but it flies high and wide. Why not have a go?! His curler against Georgia from long range was gorgeous.
Then at the other end, David Jurasek, the left wing-back, also shoots from miles out but it's straight down Mert Gunok's throat. He's been decent, the keeper, today after replacing Manchester United's Altay Bayindir in goal.
Earlier, Antonin Barak, the tall leftie, was deservedly booked for dragging down the flying Kadioglu on the Turkey left wing.

Calhanoglu, often a holding midfielder these days for his club Inter Milan, is playing further up the pitch today.
Both he and Guler are playing centrally.
Turkey’s formation is not very clear but looks quite like a 4-2-4-0, with no centre-forward.
12' Czech Republic 0-0 Turkey
Turkey have a slightly lop-sided (by design) back four, with the right-footed Ferdi Kadioglu at left-back, a la Denis Irwin, or me when I play left-back.
Andros Townsend on ITV co-commentary has pointed out that Inter Milan and Turkey playmaker Hakan Calhanoglu, who scored an impressive 15 goals in all competitions this season for his club from central midfield, has pushed forward.

He is right up alongside Yilmaz up top, with Ismail Yuksek deeper as a No 6. Teenagers Yildiz and Guler cutting in from either side, a false nine... Turkey are a fun team to watch.
8' Czech Republic 0-0 Turkey
Czech Republic, needing a win tonight, started really well. Intensity, aggression, high press.
But that has calmed down in the last minute or so and Turkey have enjoyed some attacked, with Yildiz dribbling on the left side of the area dangerously, and Calhanoglu inadvertently ending a nice move as he slipped inside the box.
So much focus on Guler, but Turkey have another 19-year-old starlet in Juventus' Kenan Yildiz.
The pair know each other well from the youth ranks - and both have already been involved close to the Czech box.

After all that, the table has changed.
Now, Portugal are still down to win the group, with Turkey in second.
But Georgia are in third and would go through as it stands, with Czech Republic set to go out in last place.
Incredible! In the other match in Group F, also taking place right now, Georgia are taking on former champions Portugal in Gelsenkirchen.
And the underdogs have already taken the lead against a much-rotated Portugal!
Star man Khvicha Kvaratskhelia sliding one in to send their fans wild with a goal in the second minute.

1' Czech Republic 0-0 Turkey
Wow. Czech Republic launch it forward via a long throw, it causes carnage in the Turkey box - more uncertain defending - and it flies just wide of the post.
The ref eventually blows for a soft foul on Turkey.
And again! Lukas Provod is found by Barak's lay-off outside the box, he arrows a left-footed rocket towards Mert Gunok's bottom-left corner... good diving save! Replays show it deflected off the stretching Ismail Yuksek.
Close. Gunok urges his players to wake up, in no uncertain terms.

Presume that means he available to come on if they feel they need him.
