Outreach carnival in KK for early TVET exposure

KOTA KINABALU: The inaugural ‘Jom Pilih Kemahiran’ (Choose your Skill) Outreach Carnival held here today is an ideal platform to give early exposure of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes to youth and parents.
Deputy Human Resources Minister Mustapha Sakmud said the carnival organised by the Skills Development Department is being planned to be held at six more locations throughout Malaysia to give exposure to the community about TVET.
“Today we bring together 20 TVET training providers and 20 companies and industries. Various activities are provided including exhibitions and interviews for job seekers,” he said while inaugurating the carnival at the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Training Institute here today.
He said the carnival is also seen as a platform for the department to establish strategic cooperation with the industry to ensure that training programmes are offered in line with technological changes.
“It also provides enlightenment regarding the direction and implementation of TVET and skills training in Malaysia.
“The aspect of the marketability of TVET graduates in the career market is also emphasised at this carnival to ensure that TVET becomes the main choice among young people in furthering studies,” he said.
In this regard, Mustapha hopes that visitors can obtain accurate information and information related to TVET skills training programmes so that TVET becomes the primary choice of the youth to achieve the country’s aspirations of producing 35 per cent of highly skilled workforce by 2030.
“Various activities held throughout the carnival this time included a tripartite engagement session involving government agencies, training providers and industry,” he said.
