ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's soccer team (4-0-1) downed Detroit Mercy (1-4-0), 2-0, on Friday (Sept. 6) at U-M Soccer Stadium to tally its fourth win of the year.

Beto Soto provided the offensive spark for the Wolverines, assisting the first goal of the evening and assisting on the second. Nolan Miller scored his first goal of the season to give Michigan the lead in the first half. Matthew Fisher tallied his first assist of the year on Miller's goal while Joao Paulo Ramos found his first helper of the campaign on Soto's marker.

In goal, Ethan Wood got the start on Senior Night and earned his first win of 2024. Senior Hayden Evans entered the contest in the second half and logged three saves to preserve the combined shutout for the Maize and Blue. Michigan has registered clean sheets in three of five matches this season.

Neither team created much momentum for the majority of the first half until the Wolverines created a chance in the 39th minute. Fisher fed Soto, who lofted a pinpoint pass to Miller, who finished with his right foot into the bottom corner of the net, putting U-M in front. Michigan has scored first in all five matches in 2024.

In the second half, Soto found himself on the receiving end of a pass from Ramos and beat the keeper with a shot into the bottom corner of the net, doubling Michigan's lead to 2-0. Detroit Mercy threatened on a few occasions, but Evans and the defense were equal to the task and kept the Titans off the scoreboard to preserve the shut-out.

Next up, Michigan will kick off Big Ten play when they host Penn State on Friday, Sept. 13 at U-M Soccer Stadium.
