Fuiyoh! Uncle Roger's restaurant finally opens at Pavilion KL

Malaysian-born comedian Nigel Ng, better known by his online alter-ego Uncle Roger, has officially launched his first restaurant at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.

Fuiyoh! It’s Uncle Roger specialises in fried rice, the very dish in which BBC Food presenter Hersha Patel was mercilessly criticised for her unorthodox preparation in a viral reaction video — now over 38 million views — on Ng’s YouTube channel.

Ng’s restaurant promises the real thing with plenty of MSG and wok hei without any sacrilegious frills (like chilli jam). Aside from Egg Fried Rice (RM16), his basic offerings also include Tomato Fried Rice (RM18) and Kimchi Fried Rice (RM18), all of which can be topped up with different proteins, from chicken satay to salmon and unagi.

Located on the 7th floor, the restaurant is decked out in Uncle Roger’s signature orange with comical elements, such as a neon-lit rice cooker — a staple for every Asian household, he advises — on the wall and woks — the only cookware to correctly prepare fried rice — as pendant lights, peppering the store.

Fans thronged the grand opening today with some arriving even before the mall opened.

However, the fanfare will continue on Sept 14 as Uncle Roger is inviting all his “nieces and nephews” to visit the store and attempt to break a few Guinness World Records, one of which is the “largest gathering of Uncle Rogers”.

Those who have pre-registered their participation can collect their starter pack at the Fuiyoh! Pop-Up Van at Level 3, Connection Street at 9am. Others who did not register are also encouraged to take part in full Uncle Roger garb (orange polo tee, long black pants, black phone belt case and white or black shoes). All are required to check in at the same area.

This event will be filmed for Uncle Roger's YouTube channel.
