Virat Kohli, a self-confessed foodie, expressed in a new Instagram story that he was absolutely delighted to try mock chicken tikka. The cricketer shared a glimpse of the appealing tikka dish with his fans on social media on December 13.

Mock meat, for the uninitiated, refers to plant-based foods created to imitate the taste and texture of animal meat. Ingredients such as jackfruit, banana peels, soy and wheat isolate are used to prepare it.

Mock meat is one of the growing food trends across the globe. In its annual trend report, Instagram noted that 42 percent of the GenZs it surveyed expressed they were interested in trying plant-based meat.

Virat Kohli, who was previously fond non-vegetarian dishes such as butter chicken, embraced vegetarian lifestyle a few years back over his commitment to fitness. In a post shared in 2019, the star cricketer even said that he has never felt better in his life after he turned vegetarian.

Mock meat, meanwhile, is easily available in India. Blue Tribe is among the several brands offering it. Virat Kohli lauded the brand in his post. Actors Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D’Souza also ventured into the plant-based meat space with their brand Imagine Meats.
