New Manchester United signing already made Liverpool 'dream' clear in transfer admission

New Manchester United signing Wout Weghorst has revealed which side he ‘dreamed’ of playing for in England, and it isn’t his new club.

The Dutch striker joined Manchester United on loan from Burnley during the transfer window, with a temporary move to Turkey having been cut short. He told United fans that it was a “fantastic feeling to now have the chance to pull on the famous red shirt".

However, Manchester United wasn't the club of Weghorst’s dreams. If he had things his way, he would have been lining out in a different red shirt in England.

"I always found Liverpool very special. I still get goosebumps from 'You'll Never Walk Alone'. There are other great English clubs too, and I always liked Milan because so many Dutch played there," Weghorst said to DAZN and Goal in 2020.

"I am ambitious and want to get ahead. Maybe at some point play at another club, whether in Germany or in England? But at the moment it is still far away. I feel good and try to achieve the maximum here."

He also confirmed similar sentiments to Dutch outlet De Telegraaf in 2018, saying: "I've dreamt of [playing for Liverpool] since childhood."

Unfortunately for Weghorst, his dream of donning the Liverpool shirt is unlikely to come true, not least following his move to Manchester United.

Liverpool will be hoping that it's signing of a Dutch attacker in the January transfer window will be the one that pays the most dividends.
