Harmanpreet Kaur on India’s win
Harmanpreet hands over the trophy to Pratika Rawal and Tanuja Kanwer, debutants in this series. A sweet gesture.
Really happy to see the way she (Deepti) is bowling. These kind of games always show how mentally strong you are. Deepti and Jemimah handled the situation really well and Richa finished it off well. Staying together and working hard has always given us positive results.
Our fielding coach is always asking for 100 percent success rate, but today we dropped one chance and hopefully we will set the tone better in the New Year.
Player of the Series: Renuka Thakur - 10 wickets in the series
There was swing on offer and I tried to take advantage of the conditions. One of my team-mates and I had a bet that if you pick these many wickets, you would get this and that. Really happy to see the rewards for all my hard work. In Australia, we didn’t do well and when I came back to India, the plan was how I can improve and take wickets during my second spell and I worked a lot with Jhulan Goswami and it really helped me a lot.
Player of the Match: Deepti Sharma - 6/31; 39(48b)
I was just waiting for my turn to contribute with the ball. The plan was to give breakthroughs no matter which stage of the innings I am bowling at. I always try to read the batter and be ready to adjust my plans. Particularly with Chinelle, the plan was to get her out as early as possible, really happy because it was a crucial wicket at that stage of the game.
Hayley Matthews on the match
We were probably a few runs short. But good to see the fight shown in the second half. It shows that no matter what, we want to fight until the very end. The wicket was tricky in both halves. Started turning a lot more a bit later. We didn’t adjust how well we had to (with the bat).
As a group, we get to see the depth we have. To see Chinelle Henry stand up, really good to gather, and just personal milestones that a lot of the girls have been able to reach.
Jemimah Rodrigues reacts to the series win
Today’s game was challenging because of the conditions. But the way Renuka bowled and then Deepti taking that six-wicket haul, everyone contributed (with ball and in the field). Batting was a little tricky but I’m glad we could get over the line.
We have been having a lots of ups and downs. To come here and win again, it means a lot. We will take a lot of positives from here and get even better as we take on Ireland and then the WPL.
On India’s bowlers: I promise that if they can get teams all out every game, I will run from long on to long on each over. Hats off to them. The pitch was in our favour but we still needed to hit the right lengths. They have been working hard in the nets and nice to see them execute. Bowlers win us matches.
IND 167/5 (28.2 overs) - INDIA WINS BY 5 WICKETS with more than 20 overs to spare
Afy Fletcher comes in. Richa smacks her for SIX down the ground. Ends up hitting the cameraman’s umbrella and she;s apologetic. She then hits another maximum this time over long on. Job well done for the Indians. It’s a 3-0 sweep.
IND 155/5 (28 overs) - 8 runs to win
Ashmini Munisar comes on to bowl her first. Three runs off the first two balls, with a wide involved as well. Deepti then smacks the youngster for six over long on. Eight runs to win now.
IND 146/5 (27 overs) - 17 runs to win
Ramharack continues. Edge from Deepti off the first ball. No damage done. Three dot balls to begin. Some drama. Karishma halts her delivery thinking Deepti has strayed from the crease, but the bat is still grounded. Off the next ball, Richa walks away just as the ball is bowled. Tit for tat, the crowd loves it. A dot ball follows to Richa Ghosh after which she tries something audacious to sweep the ball to the fence and it runs away for FOUR. It was a wide too. She goes back to back and in a similar, sending it fine past the keeper for FOUR. 10 RUNS off this over.
IND 136/5 (26 overs) - 27 runs to win
Matthews continues. Ninth over. Deepti runs a single. Richa comes in and she’s been asked to step on the gas and finish the game and she does with a lovely SIX over deep midwicket. Slogged this. Short from Hayley Matthews and she is punished. Two dot balls to end the over.
IND 129/5 (25 overs) - 34 runs to win
RAMHARACK GETS JEMIMAH! She goes straight and lined to the middle stump. A fuller delivery. Jemimah tries to sweep but swipes it upward. Dottin takes the catch at square leg. Richa Ghosh is the new batter.
Jemimah Rodrigues c Dottin b Ramharack 29 (45b 1x4 0x6) SR: 64.44
IND 128/4 (24 overs) - 35 runs to win
Matthews in for her eighth over. No answers whatsover. Four runs come off the over.
IND 124/4 (23 overs) - 39 runs to win
Jemimah sweeps Ramharack for a single. Four more runs come off this Ramharack over. India inching closer and closer now.
IND 119/4 (22 overs) - 44 runs to win
Matthews comes back. Jemi tries to go big and produces a big top edge off her slog sweep. It lands safely. Jemi taps her head admonishing herself for the haste she just showed. She doesn’t need to rush. Just a single.
Deepti again puches the ball to the offside for a single. Plenty of reinforcement for her on the off side. Jemi comes down on one knee to drive the ball to the fence, but a crouching Qiana Joseph takes the fire out of the ball.
Oh brilliant delivery. Deepti on one knee to sweep, misses, goes through her and keeper to Dottin who completes a one handed catch, but no dismissal.
IND 116/4 (21 overs) - 47 runs to win
Deepti welcomes Ramharack with a FOUR. She thanks the spinner for the width allowed to free herself. Nicely in her arc this.
WAIT. DROPPED AND HAYLEY MATTHEWS IS THE CULPRIT. She tries to replicate that shot but edges to slip which goes a bit low and Hayley can’t do a clean job. She misjudged the trajectory of it completely.
IND 110/4 (20 overs) - 53 runs to win
Matthews continues. No run for Deepti off the first ball. Deepti drives down the ground and runs two. Deepti sends the next ball to sweeper cover for a single. Jemimah then pulls the ball to the square leg fence. Alliyah Alleyne steps on the ball before, don’t think that’s intentional, as she tries to stop it from going off to the boundary. Such a dangerous situation. Glad there’s no injury. Just the five runs from this over, but it’s keeping the Indian chase in a very health and brisk place.
IND 105/4 (19 overs) - 58 runs to win
Karishma Ramharack comes into the attack. Three runs off the first five balls and then Jemimah can’t help but whip out the sweep. Goes fine for FOUR.
IND 98/4 (18 overs) - 65 runs to win
Matthews continues. She is showing good contol over her deliveries and is able to keep the scoring fairly quiet. Jemimah lunges on the front foot but gets a thick inside edge which runs away on the leg side. No run though. She then goes on the backfoot to make room through cover. A misfield in the inner circle, means she can get two runs. Munisar stops it from going past the fence. No more runs conceded as Jemimah plays the dicey deliveries safe.
IND 96/4 (17 overs) - 67 runs to win
Fletcher continues. Deepti wants to take her on and she will. She was beaten off the first ball but fights back. First gets FOUR wide off slip. unlucky for the Windies this. She then earns her boundary as she punishes a tossed up delivery from Fletcher. She finishes with two runs off the last ball.
IND 85/4 (16 overs) - 78 runs to win
Matthews returns. Jemimah comes down with a front foot defence. Big edge to slip, but no one there. Single. Deepti smacks the ball through cover and point for a single. The left-right combination working for India so far in keeping Windies on its toes. The ball is spinning well for the Windies skipper. Jemimah whips out the sweep off the last ball. Two runs to end the over.
IND 81/4 (15 overs) - 82 runs to win
7 runs off this Afy Fletcher over. Deepti Sharma, the new batter in, sends a tossed up delivery fine for FOUR. Wristy shot this sweep.
IND 74/4 (14 overs) - 89 runs to win
Just the one run from this Matthews over.
IND 73/4 (13 overs) - 90 runs to win
Fletcher returns. Two runs and a single already to Jemimah. Harmanpreet is in imperious touch today. ANOTHER FOUR. Harman’s in a hurry to wrap up and begin New Year celebrations. Goes over extra cover.
AFY FLETCHER WILL HAVE THE LAST LAUGH. She gets Harmanpreet Kaur.
Harman goes on the backfoot but finds herself with absolutely no room to get the ball away. BOWLED! Gone after a quick 32. Off stump uprooted. Delightful sight if you love this type of dismissal.
Harmanpreet Kaur b Fletcher 32 (22b 7x4 0x6) SR: 145.45
IND 66/3 (12 overs) - 97 runs to win
Matthews continues. Five runs off the over which includes a gorgeous FOUR off the bat of Harmanpreet Kaur. She flicks it off the pads fine for FOUR.
IND 61/3 (11 overs) - 102 runs to win
Afy Fletcher takes over from the other end. Dot balls for Jemi off the first two balls. A busy Jemimah looks to find gaps to run singles on. She finds the gap in the third delivery, through cover, running two. A few more singles make it five runs off the over.
IND 56/3 (10 overs) - 107 runs to win
Spin now from the West Indies. In comes Hayley Matthews. Begins with three dot balls. There is no pressure but a restlessness builds for Pratika and she holes out to Karishma Ramharack at mid-on. Tried to find the big runs but it backfired for the promising Indian batter. There was hesitation there from Ramharack but she holds on.
Pratika Rawal c Ramharack b Matthews 18 (23b 4x4 0x6) SR: 78.26
In comes Jemimah Rodrigues. A leg bye to finish the over.
IND 55/2 (9 overs) - 108 runs to win
Harmanpreet Kaur is in the mood to drive. Three boundaries come off this over. All driven, two through the cover region, one straight down the ground. Fantastic timing and placement. Dottin is costly in this over. 13 runs coming off it. Harman has quickly gone up to 23 off just 14 balls.
IND 42/2 (8 overs) - 121 runs to win
Alleyne continues and her lines are still not tight. Two wides in the first two deliveries. All gifts for India. Harman runs a single with the ball going through sweeper cover. Pratika Rawal then finds the boundary. FOUR. She backs up to allow room to send the ball way through third man. A wide follows. Tough. Nine runs off the over.
IND 33/2 (7 overs) - 130 runs to win
DOTTIN IS ECSTATIC as she snaps Harleen Deol who knicks the ball to the keeper. Went straight through her defence. A centurion in the last game, Harleen falls for just one run in this one.
Harleen Deol c Campbelle b Dottin 1 (3b 0x4 0x6) SR: 33.33
In comes Harmanpreet Kaur. She’s come in with a vengeance as she punches Dottin for two fours and a couple of runs. Dottin gave her a bit of width and Harman whips out the cover drive, a stylish effortless shot undoing all the tightness Dottin had managed thus far. FOUR. She runs two after nudging the ball through square leg. Harman then edges the ball, goes through the gap between keeper and the slip for FOUR.
IND 23/1 (6 overs) - India needs 140 to win
Alleyne comes on for her third. SMRITI MANDHANA FALLS! For her first single digit score of the series. An underwhelming end to what has been a phenomenal year with the bat for the opener. Alleyne goes full and outside off. Mandhana hastily tries to drive but ends up edging the ball to Ashmini Munisar at cover. That was so seamless, and caught with one hand. Lovely catch, this will pump up the West Indies.
Smriti Mandhana c Munisar b Alleyne 4 (19b 1x4 0x6) SR: 21.05
Alleyne bowls a brilliant ball right after, hits Harleen on the pads. Went inwards quite late. No damage done.
Two runs and a wicket.
IND 20/0 (5 overs) - India needs 143 to win
Dottin is back for her third. Disciplined bowling from the medium pacer. Another maiden over by the Windies allrounder. There’s an appeal for Mandhana off the penultimate delivery too. She cops one on the pads but it looked like it was heading down leg. No one pursues it.
IND 20/0 (4 overs) - India needs 143 to win
Alleyne returns. Sticks to a back of a length ball. There’s a stray wide that Pratika Rawal does not punish. But Alleyne goes short off the very next ball and Rawal is all over it. She has a lot of width and this one is smacked through point and backward point for FOUR. See so much of Rahul Dravid and Mithali Raj in this youngster.
IND 11/0 (3 overs) - India needs 148 to win
Dottin back for her second. Gets an inside edge straight away. Has a quiet over before Mandhana decides to find the boundary. A nice drive through extra cover, signature shot this. FOUR
IND 15/0 (2 overs) - India needs 152 to win
Aaliyah Alleyne takes charge at the other end for West Indies. There’s a wide-ish slip in place for Pratika Rawal. Dot ball and then Rawal accesses the leg side. Uses her wrist giving herself time to play it, guiding that to square leg for FOUR. Alleyne tries to change the angle and ends up going a bit wider than intended.
She’s struggling to tighten her line is Alleyne as she bowls another wide and a massive no ball in the same over. Pratika makes full use of the free hit and slaps thumps the ball over cover for FOUR.
IND 0/0 (1 over) - Needs 163 to win
Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal at the crease. Deandro Dottin with the new ball. Dottin goes full and a bit wide in the first two deliveries, follows it up with a shorter variant. Mandhana on strike, not off the mark just yet. The inner circle is well placed to tighten runs, but it’s a matter of time before Mandhana picks the gaps. Dottin comes around the wicket, angles it differently pitched outside off. Smriti leaves. She won’t concede this over. The last ball was a peach, turned in, oh could have been dicey. Maiden over to start.
India’s chase now
The Women in Blue needs 163 runs to complete the series sweep over West Indies.

WI 104/5 (26 overs)
Deepti with her sixth over and the first ball could mean Alleyne’s dismissal! Review taken by Harmanpreet. Review fails as the ball is shown missing the stumps due to the turn. Alleyne survives. A maiden from the offie.
WI 104/5 (25 overs)
Oh what a howler! That’s a dolly that has been dropped by Renuka! Aaliyah Alleyne plays a flick but the ball catches the edge and is poised to fall into the pacer’s hands but the Indian bowler drops it! Great piece of fielding by the Indian skipper at silly mid off to stop the shot.

Born to fly: Zaida James, silver lining in the West Indies’ overcast sky
West Indies returned to the ODI format after six months and didn’t have much reason to cheer. A 211-run pasting at the hands of India is hardly the best way to begin after flipping the hourglass in the runup to the ODI World Cup in September 2025. That said, head coach Shane Deitz has always been a man who looks for the silver lining in an overcast sky. For the Windies in Vadodara, that was Zaida James who registered her career-best figures of 5/45 against a dominant Indian batting lineup in the first ODI.
Lavanya Lakshmi Narayanan writes about the 20-year-old.

Is this the breakthrough India needed? Zaida James at the crease. A wicket maiden from Deepti.
WI 100/3 (21 overs)
“Catch it, catch it, catch it!” were the shouts from the Women in Blue but Henry found the SIX over Jemimah Rodrigues over at long on. When the ball was in the air, Henry thought she was done for, thrashing her bat at the pitch and cursing herself.
WI 92/3 (20 overs)
FOUR! Deepti with her third over and she is hit for a boundary over deep mid wicket. Great footwork from the batter. Stand and deliver from Henry! Straight down the ground from the batter for a SIX! Twelve runs from the over.
WI 80/3 (19 overs)
Tanuja replaces Priya. Beautiful shot from Henry as she drives it through the covers for a FOUR! India seems to be slacking off quite a bit in the recent overs as an overthrow helps the batters get a two.
WI 72/3 (18 overs)
Deepti with the ball. Six runs from the over.
WI 66/3 (17 overs)
Priya continues and she’s smacked for a FOUR by Campbelle past the mid off fielder and down the ground! The batter finds the space once again to notch up back-to-back boundaries. She uses her feet well to find another FOUR. A wide ball as this over is turning out to be a horrific one for the leggie. Another FOUR! Henry this time cuts it without having to move much to find the ropes over at backward point. Fourteen overs from the over as the 50-run partnership comes up for the batters.
WI 52/3 (16 overs)
Deepti replaces Tanuja and the first ball could be a run out! Never mind! The third umpire review shows that Henry is inside her crease as her dive keeps her at the pitch for some more time. Four runs from the over.
WI 48/3 (15 overs)
Priya Mishra is brought into the bowling attack. Henry cuts it and the shot just falls short of the fielder! Misfield from Minnu Mani as she fails to stop the FOUR from Henry over at deep mid wicket.
WI 43/3 (14 overs)
Tanuja continues. Full toss and Campbelle gets in on the fun! She smashes it towards long on as she comes down the track for a FOUR! Couple of singles, couple of lbw appeals which bore no fruit as drinks are called.
WI 37/3 (13 overs)
Renuka is brought back for her second spell. Henry with the boundary once again as she cuts it towards deep point for a FOUR!
Renuka joins an elite list!
India’s Renuka Singh Thakur joined an elite list of compatriots when she dismissed Qiana Joseph off the first ball of the innings in the third ODI against West Indies in Vadodara on Friday.
WI 33/3 (12 overs)
Tanuja with her second over. SIX! First maximum of the West Indies innings as the debutant is hit over cow corner by Henry. A single to end the over, eight runs from it.
WI 25/3 (11 overs)
Titas back as she changes ends, now bowling from the side which has seemed to favour Renuka with the wickets. A dot, a wide ball, and another dot ball for the pacer. FOUR! Campbelle flicks it off her pads and finds the boundary on the onside. A single to end the over.
WI 19/3 (10 overs)
Debutant Tanuja Kanwer with her first over, replacing Titas. A very good first over in ODI cricket for Tanuja as she concedes just the one run. With that PowerPlay is done West Indies and it will not be happy with the runs on the board.
WI 18/3 (9 overs)
Renuka with her fifth. A single on the fourth ball, after which the Indian pacer almost castles Henry with the same delivery which sent Matthews and Dottin back. A dot to finish the over.
WI 17/3 (8 overs)
Titas continues. A wide in the fifth ball from the bowler from Bengal. Henry cuts it on the backfoot and sends the ball towards the cover for a couple of runs. CLOSE! The ball passes near the off stump as Henry misses her shot.
WI 14/3 (7 overs)
Renuka continues. Henry tries to flick it over mid on but it falls just short of skipper Harmanpreet Kaur. FOUR on the last ball of the over!
WI 9/3 (6 overs)
Titas bowling to Campbelle. The batter tries to find the ropes with a cover drive but Jemimah Rodrigues is there well inside the circle over at cover to stop the attempt. A maiden from Titas.
WI 9/3 (5 overs)
Renuka with her third over. A direct hit! The umpire goes upstairs. But Dottin is well inside her crease. OUT! Same ball that got Matthews not gets Dottin! The batter goes for the biggie but completely misses it. Middle stump is castled. Dottin punches the pitch in frustration.
Deandra Dottin 5 (12) b Renuka Thakur
Chinelle Henry the newest batter at the crease. Just the one run, and the massive wicket of Dottin in the over.
WI 8/2 (4 overs)
Titas continues. First boundary for West Indies! A well-timed shot from Dottin as he plays a straight drive for a FOUR. Rest of the balls reap no runs for the Windies.
WI 4/2 (3 overs)
Renuka continues. A run in three balls. Deandra Dottin on strike and the experienced player is making sure that the gap that was breached in Matthews’ case is covered by her. A big swing from Dottin but it ends with just a single as the timing is off on the shot. Two from the over.
WI 2/2 (2 overs)
Titas Sadhu with her first over. Campbelle tries to cover drive it but misses the ball. Campbelle tries to play a straight drive but the ball comes off the edge and goes towards gully but Harleen Deol does well to stop the shot. Just the one from the over.
WI 1/2 (1 over)
Hayley Matthews and Qiana Joseph at the crease. Renuka Thakur with the opening over. OUT! First ball, and it seemed like a wide at first. But the ball gets some glove on its way to Richa Ghosh’s hands as the West Indies batter goes for another duck in this series.
Qiana Joseph 0 (1) c Richa Ghosh b Renuka Thakur
First runs on the board as Shemaine Campbelle plays it down the ground with an unsure shot, just past Renuka’s searching hand. A single run. OUT! Skipper Matthews gone! A classic Renuka-esque ball as it angles into the batter and keeps a bit low as Matthews is left searching for contact with the delivery. She too goes for a duck.

Deandra Dottin after Gujarat Giants WPL comeback: Life has come full circle
Deandra Dottin wore a smile as she started speaking about the Women’s Premier League. A week ago, she was roped in by the Gujarat Giants in the pre-season auction for a whopping Rs. 1.70 crore. It took her a while to come to terms with the fact that she was the most expensive overseas player in the exercise.
Dottin has had a strange relationship with the WPL thus far. In the inaugural edition two years ago, she was released by the Giants at the last minute, triggering controversy. Last season, she went unsold.
This time around, she attracted an intense bidding war before eventually returning to the Gujarat outfit.
The Windies allrounder sat down with Shayan Acharya for a quick chat on her WPL fortunes. Read here.
Deandra Dottin has had a strange relationship with the WPL, with a controversial exit from the Gujarat Giants in the first season and finding no takers in the second. She’s made her way back to the Giants and is eager to make up for lost time.
With a rekindled energy, Harleen Deol finally lets her bat do the talking
A knee surgery forced Harleen Deol out of action for nine months. While she missed being with the Indian team and hanging out with her team-mates during that phase, it also made her mentally stronger and more determined.
The batter knew that the comeback to the national team won’t be easy, with immense competition for those coveted spots. A firm believer in destiny, Harleen did not lose self-belief and throughout her recovery period, she visualised scoring a century on return to international cricket and guiding her team to convincing victories.
At the Kotambi Stadium on Tuesday, she turned her dreams into a reality.

A few special centurions in this series
Harleen Deol and Hayley Matthews scored resilient centuries in the previous ODI which India won by 115 runs.
Revisit that game here.
Since 2021, Harleen Deol is the only Indian woman besides Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur to score a century in One-Day Internationals. She got to her maiden ODI ton in her 15th game.

The West Indies skipper scored a fighting 106 but had little to no support from her side as the rest of the batting order crumbled.
Match preview: With series already in the bag, India likely to experiment in final game
Coming on the back of an embarrassing ODI series defeat against Australia, India bounced back smartly with convincing T20I and ODI series wins against the West Indies, and as it hopes to end the year on a high with a win on Friday. Shayan Acharya writes.
