municipal administration

and water supply department has launched four awareness videos on waste segregation, safe disposal of waste featuring Tamil cine actors.
On Friday, four videos were released featuring comedians Yogi Babu, Robo Shankar and Redin Kingsley. In one video featuring Yogi Babu, it was about how a bride cancels a wedding proposal because the groom did not follow proper solid waste management practices and to fix the marriage, the groom changes and follows segregation and waste dumping. Another video featuring

Redin Kingsley

was about how a man throws a banana peel on the road and laughs Kingsley, who is jogging, slip on it and fall. In moments, the man laughing also slips and falls over a water bottle thrown on the road.
Speaking to TOI, MAWS secretary Shiv Das Meena said the idea behind creating the videos is to promote segregate of dry and wet waste. ‘If residents segregate waste at source, then it can enable easier recycling. We wanted to convey the importance of segregation through these videos. People should know that paper, cloth and electronic waste have recyclable value and do not have to go to landfills,” he said.
He said the city and the state has a robust infrastructure to segregate waste and also process them. “We separate the waste in our recovery centres in the urban local bodies and some of the dry waste are processed and sent to cement factories,” he added. “The plot owners must also not allow waste accumulation in their land. Empty plots must be fenced and protected,” he added.

He said the civic bodies have been conducting the campaign People’s Movement for Clean Cities where they conduct clean-up drives and also hold camps to improve awareness among school children.
