Relive Molineux memories with these five wins | From the vault | News

We’re heading to Molineux again for our next taste of league action, and it’s a famous old ground where we’ve had some famous old away days down the years.

We’ve registered a fair few impressive wins at the home of Wolverhampton Wanderers down the years, and created some special moments too that’ll live long in the memory.

Here are five fine wins at the home of the Old Gold for you to savour again:

February 7, 2004
Wolves 1-3 Arsenal

Our Invincibles-in-waiting made it a club-record 24 games unbeaten at the start of the campaign with this win at Molineux. Dennis Bergkamp got us off to the perfect start when he swept a shot into the net after just eight minutes, but the hosts battled back and equalised when Vio Ganea tucked home after a corner kick.

However two goals in five second-half minutes saw us wrestle control of the game and the points. Thierry Henry latched onto a precise Robert Pires pass to cooly dink past Paul Jones, and then Kolo Toure nodded in a Patrick Vieira cutback to clinch victory on our first league visit to Molineux in 20 years.

Wolves 1-4 Arsenal

It would be nearly five years until we made the trip to Wolverhampton again, and the hosts were more than welcoming by netting twice for us in the opening 35 minutes. Firstly, Ronald Zubar unwittingly nudged a Cesc Fabregas corner over his own goalline, and then seven minutes later Eduardo’s chip cannoned off Jody Craddock and past a helpless Wayne Hennessey.

In first-half stoppage-time, Fabregas linked up with Bacary Sagna and Robin van Persie to complete a devastating counter-attack, and on 66 minutes Andrey Arshavin added a fourth from the edge of the area. Craddock made up for his own goal by netting at the right end with a minute to go, but the damage had long been done.

April 11, 2012
Wolves 0-3 Arsenal

This game was virtually done and dusted after just 11 minutes, with the biggest moment of the contest coming after eight when Sebastien Bassong bundled over the onrushing Theo Walcott to concede a penalty and be red-carded, with Van Persie chipping in the spot-kick. Then moments later Walcott tucked home a second to put us firmly in control.

Perhaps the most surprising thing is that it took us until the 69th minute to find our third but it arrived when Alex Song found Yossi Benayoun on the edge of the area and he lashed the ball into the bottom corner to put gloss on the scoreline.

Wolves 0-2 Arsenal

When football resumed during lockdown, Wolves were above us in the table and dreaming of qualifying for the Champions League after an impressive campaign, however we put a huge dent in those aspirations on an afternoon Bukayo Saka will never forget.

Just before half-time, Kieran Tierney’s deflected cross fell into Saka’s path, and he hooked a volley past Rui Patricio to get on the scoresheet in the Premier League for the first time. Alexandre Lacazette added a second when he skipped around Conor Coady before blasting into the net to move us up to seventh in the table, just behind the Old Gold.

Wolves 0-2 Arsenal

In our final game before the World Cup break, we moved five points clear at the top of the Premier League, but only after we escaped into the changing rooms at the break still level after Goncalo Guedes had spurned two great chances to give the home side the lead.

We capitalised on that after the interval and Martin Odegaard was in the perfect place to shovel a Fabio Vieira pass into the net to sneak us in front, before the captain completed his brace by drilling home a loose ball after Gabriel Martinelli’s initial attempt had been blocked.
