Nani and Keerthy Suresh-starrer Dasara has started strong at the box office, minting Rs 17 crore nett on its opening day, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. This figure represents the film’s collections in multiple languages, including Telugu, and dubbed versions in Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi. Dasara is facing off against Ajay Devgn’s Bholaa in the Hindi belt.

Nani’s last release, Ante Sundaraniki (2022), which released in Telugu with dubbed versions in Tamil and Malayalam, earned Rs 7.3 crore on opening day. Despite positive reviews, the film could only amass a lifetime collection of Rs 19.97 crore. Nani’s most popular film in the recent years, Jersey (2019), was released only in Telugu but opened with Rs 6.95 crore and collected Rs 33.65 crore during its entire run.

Dasara is Nani’s first pan-Indian release, and was promoted as the next big Telugu film after Pushpa: The Rise and RRR’s blockbuster success. Dasara’s promotional material made the audience wonder if there are any similarities between it and Rangasthalam, Pushpa and KGF. During an AMA session on Twitter, addressed these concerns and wrote in response to a fan’s question, “Terminator and DDLJ are not same coz both SRKand Arnold wear a leather jacket ;) #AskNani.”

Nani spoke about promoting his film across the country, and in an earlier conversation with indianexpress.com, he said, “If I feel this is the content which – irrespective of place, language, emotion – people will connect to, I will bring it to everyone. If it is a native Telugu film then I will not bring it to North India. If those films work, then it will definitely give me a boost. I genuinely felt that the Hindi audience will love Dasara as much as the Telugu audience and that is why we are bringing it here.”

The Indian Express’ Raghu Bandi gave the film 3 stars and said it was a “raw and gritty tale derailed by poor narration.” The review further read, “Nani’s film is a heartfelt attempt from the makers, but falters due to poor narration. However, Nani shines in the layered character.”
