FPL experts: Who is the best captain for Gameweek 5?

Although Erling Haaland (£14.1m) remains the clear favourite for the captaincy in Gameweek 5 of Fantasy Premier League, there are plenty of other players who could deliver big hauls this weekend.

James Maddison (£7.8m) and Son Heung-min (£9.1m) are two names that should be considered, as both are set to face Sheffield United, who have conceded seven goals in their opening four matches.

Here the Scout's panel of FPL experts reveal their plans for the armband this weekend.

Haaland's away form last season wasn't as impressive as his home form, even though he scored a brace against Gameweek 5 opponents West Ham United in Gameweek 1 last season. So I am seriously considering moving the armband this week. Maddison has four returns in as many Premier League matches and Tottenham Hotspur have a great home fixture against Sheff Utd. He will be my captain.

The closer we get to the deadline, the more I am tempted to captain Son. I think the difference in quality between Spurs and Sheff Utd might be too much. If I am brave, I will likely give the armband to Son instead of Haaland.

After his display in Gameweek 4, there is only one choice for me and that is Haaland. His fixture against West Ham looks slightly tricky, but he remains the standout pick.

I am heavily leaning towards captaining Son. I feel confident Ange Postecoglou will play his best finisher in the No 9 role, where his expected stats are overwhelmingly better than when he plays wide. When Son is hot, he is hot and can go on some deadly goalscoring streaks. Even though I think Haaland will produce a return against West Ham, this is an opportunity for me that is hard to ignore!

I've been really impressed with Spurs's start to the season, particularly in attack. Deploying Son as the central striker against Burnley seemed to breathe life into Spurs' front three and take them to a whole new level. I would be tempted to captain Son if I had him, or Maddison, who seems to be at the centre of everything good in that Spurs team right now.

I do not own Son so the captaincy will go to Haaland, but Son would tempt me this week given the respective fixtures. The only caveat is we are not 100 per cent certain Son will continue through the middle, which would worry me if I gave him the armband.

Son could be a great alternative to Haaland this week. When he hits a purple patch, he often scores big.

I'm convinced Son will be Spurs' top points-scorer against Sheff Utd and, with Haaland having a tough match, this feels like one of the rare opportunities to make gains with a captain pick.
