Liverpool have discussed the potential signing of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Manu Kone this summer.

Jurgen Klopp's side are exploring a number of midfield options as they look to strengthen an area of the field which had been a weak point for them during the recent campaign.

The likes of Brighton's Alexis Mac Allister, Chelsea star Mason Mount and Nice's Khephren Thuram are among those that have been linked with a move to Anfield.

But now the Reds are in talks to sign Kone from the Bundesliga side.

The 22-year-old joined Monchengladbach in January 2021 and has since gone on to make 60 appearances for the club, scoring four goals.

German outlet BILD meanwhile have also reported that Liverpool have been in contact with Kone's representatives to express their interest.

It's said that the German side want somewhere in the region of £35-40m for the French U21 international.

Kone is contracted until 2025, and the German club have the option to extend his deal by a further year.

BILD claim that Monchengladbach want to use any fee they receive for Kone to help fund moves for new players in the summer window - as they look to build on a 10th place finish.

Reports in France yesterday claimed that the Reds have opened up talks with Nice over a potential move for Thuram.

Thuram has attracted attention from Premier League clubs, however, Liverpool appear to be attempting to steal a march in the race for the Frenchman's signature.

The 22-year-old star is the youngest son of former Juventus and Barcelona defender Lillian Thuram and the brother of Borussia Monchengladbach attacker Marcus.

Klopp is keen to overhaul his midfield after being forced to end Liverpool's pursuit of Real Madrid-bound Jude Bellingham, and with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner leaving this summer at the end of their contracts.

Though Liverpool are considered to be the favourites to land Mac Allister, their hopes of signing Mount took a hit with rivals Manchester United set to launch a £55m bid for the England international.
