Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane said Reading FC manager Paul Ince deserved the reception from the Old Trafford crowd on Saturday night.

Ince spent six years as a United midfielder and won a plethora of trophies with the club, including two Premier League titles, two FA Cups and the European Cup Winners Cup.

Ince left for Inter Milan before returning to the Premier League with United's arch-rivals Liverpool, where he spent two years before departing for Middlesbrough.

Upon his return to the club he captained on Saturday in the FA Cup fourth round, Ince was greeted warmly by those inside the stadium and Keane praised supporters for how they treated the Royals boss in a game Reading went on to lose 3-1 after a Casemiro brace and Fred goal.

Andy Carroll was sent after picking up two yellow cards in the space of five minutes and Amadou Mbengue's consolation goal was not enough to get Reading back in the game, with Keane agreeing with Ince's opinion on how his team played for 90 minutes.

"Rightly so, rightly so," Keane told ITV4. "He deserves it. United fans again showed a bit of class tonight, they do give ex-players a good reception. It was well deserved and he was spot on about his team, they stuck at it, it was a hard night for them, and they showed great spirit."
