Hello and welcome to Sportstar’s HIGHLIGHTS of the IPL 2024 match between Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants being held in Jaipur on Sunday.

RR beats LSG by 20 runs

Eventually, Rajasthan Royals wins it comfortably, although it was pushed to some extent by the Super Giants. It was down to death-overs specialist Sandeep Sharma, who was excellent with his deceitful variations and pace-off deliveries, conceding just 22 runs from his three overs, two of which were bowled at the death.

Nicholas Pooran and KL Rahul’s fifties gave the Royals a mighty scare but the lack of top-order runs and with the lower-order not delivering under pressure, it was a bridge too far for Lucknow.

LSG 173/6 in 20 overs

27 runs to win off six balls. Avesh Khan with the ball. He starts off with a wide outside off and Krunal takes a quick single. That makes it 25 from 6 balls. Full toss wide outside off and Pooran misses this. Umpire doesn’t call it wide as Pooran had moved across his stumps. Yorker and Pooran has no clue about what to do with it. LSG needs 25 to win from 4 balls. Another low full-toss and just a single for Pooran in the midwicket region. LSG needs 24 to win from 3 balls now. RR fans are already celebrating.

Shortish and angling across outside off, and Krunal chops it on the off-side for a single. Pooran goes for the switch-hit and only gets a single in the deep backward point area. Cut away to deep point for just a single and Rajasthan Royals has won by 20 runs.

LSG 167/6 in 19 overs

Here comes Sandeep Sharma again. Goes for the bouncer but called wide for height. RR reviews it. The umpire’s decision holds and one extra run for LSG. Yorker and Pooran smashes this to long-on, where Parag puts in a good dive but the ball falls just short. Short again and Krunal swivels and misses the pull and scampers for one leg-bye. FOUR! Low full-toss and Pooran launches this to the wide long-on boundary. Dug into the pitch and Pooran slaps it to long-on but doesn’t take a single.

Another slow bouncer and Sandeep Sharma has deceived Pooran again, who completely misses the ball. Wide yorker and Pooran finds the boundary at deep point.

LSG 156/6 in 18 overs

Ashwin to Stoinis. A single to begin the over. Pooran misses the sweep and Royals appeal for lbw. Not given out. OUT! Stoinis holes out at deep midwicket and Royals are squeezing Super Giants at the back end. Krunal Pandya is in and swings big on leg-side first-ball and misses. He is off the mark with a single at deep midwicket. Just a single for Pooran to end the over. LSG needs 38 to win from 12 balls.

17th over

Sandeep Sharma will continue. OUT! Rahul is caught at deep point and a huge blow for LSG. Marcus Stoinis is the next man in. He starts off with a single through cover. Slower bouncer and Pooran swats it for a single at deep square-leg. Wide outside off and Stoinis can only put it away for a single to deep cover. Dragged short, pace off again, and Pooran is too early into the pull and misses. FOUR! This is flat-batted by Pooran to the square-leg boundary and that’s his half-century, off just 30 balls.

KL Rahul c Dhruv Jurel b Sandeep Sharma 58 (44b 4x4 2x6)

LSG 145/4 in 16 overs

Here comes Chahal again. Slammed down the ground by Rahul and Parag parries it back to save two crucial runs for his team. Excellent work in the field. SIX! Pooran hammers this tossed up delivery outside off for a maximum down the ground. Driven uppishly over cover for two more by Pooran. Pooran goes for a switch-hit and misses. Tossed up again outside off and Pooran only gets a single down the ground. Rahul is cramped on leg-side as Chahal skids this one through. Time for a Strategic Timeout! LSG needs 49 runs to win from 24 balls.

LSG 134/4 in 15 overs

Sandeep Sharma comes into the attack. Cut by Rahul to short third and a misfield gives him a single. Good bouncer and Pooran can only pull it as far as the fielder at deep square for one more. Pushed to cover and a quick single. A direct-hit at the non-striker’s end would have been the end of Rahul but Avesh misses the target. Slower yorker and just a single down the ground for Pooran. This is pitched wide outside off and Rahul misses a wild heave. A single to end the over and just five runs from the over.

LSG 129/4 in 14 overs

Ashwin again. Swept behind square-leg by Rahul for a couple. He moves to 49 off 34 balls. A single down the ground for Rahul and that’s a 35-ball 50 for KL Rahul.

Beaten! Pooran misses the flick as Ashwin pitches this on middle and leg. A single off the hips for Pooran next ball. Swept to deep square by Rahul for two more. Punched down the ground by Rahul for one more as he looks to play Ashwin out.

LSG 122/4 in 13 overs

Boult bowls out. Short one to start with and Pooran drags it down the ground for a single. Sliced high in the air by Rahul and the balls lands in a vacant area in the deep point region for a single. SIX! Short and slapped by Pooran for a maximum over deep point. That’s the 50-run partnership up between Rahul and Pooran. FOUR! This is driven away by Pooran through cover for a boundary. Lucknow is making a fist of this and RR now looks under pressure. SIX! The yorker goes wrong and Pooran smashes this full toss over deep midwicket for another maximum. Slow and short to end the over and 20 runs come from Boult’s final over.

Ashwin 102/4 in 12 overs

Ashwin comes back. Pooran pushes this to mid-off and hares for a quick one. Punched by Rahul to deep midwicket for one more. Three singles in a row to begin Ashwin’s second over. FOUR! Ashwin misses his line again and strays down leg-side. Rahul shuffles across and sweeps this to the boundary behind him. Hundred up for Lucknow in 11.4 overs. A couple more to end the over.

LSG 93/4 in 11 overs

Burger comes back. Back of a length and Pooran guides it to deep third for a single. Short and slow and pulled away by Rahul for one more. Good yorker and Pooran drives it down the ground with the inside half of the bat for just another single. The asking rate now goes for 12 for LSG. SIX! Pulled away with disdain by Rahul for a maximum over deep midwicket as Burger comes around the wicket. FOUR! This is chipped down the ground by Rahul as he picks the slower one well. Ten runs off two balls. FOUR! This is ramped by Rahul with skill to the boundary behind him.

LSG 76/4 in 10 overs

Chahal continues. SIX! Pooran finally breaks the shackles with a maximum. Stays in his crease and just about manages to clear the fence in the deep extra-cover region.

LSG 66/4 in 9 overs

Avesh continues. Driven by Rahul for a single through cover-point. Bouncer and Nicholas Pooran looks away and pulls it to deep square-leg for one more. Pulled by Rahul to deep midwicket but for just another single. Excellent yorker from Avesh and defended back to him by Pooran. Just five singles from the over and the required rate moves to 11.63 runs an over.

LSG 61/4 in 8 overs

Yuzvendra Chahal is into the attack. Chipped to long-on by Rahul for a couple of runs. OUT! Hooda has to go, caught at deep midwicket by Jurel. He stopped out to heave the ball on leg-side but couldn’t make a good enough connection. Chahal with a timely wicket.

Deepak Hooda c Dhruv Jurel b Chahal 26 (13b 2x4 2x6)

LSG 57/3 in 7 overs

Avesh Khan into the attack. Pushed to cover by Hooda for a single off the first ball. SIX! Pulled away by Hooda for a maximum over deep midwicket and he is off a blazing start. Despite the six, Avesh does well to concede 10 runs from the over. Time for a Strategic Timeout!

LSG 47/3 in 6 overs

R. Ashwin comes into the attack and starts off with five-wides. SIX! Too full and Rahul slog sweeps this for a maximum over deep square-leg. Whipped away off the backfoot through midwicket for a single next ball. One more for Hooda in the same region as Ashwin drags his length back. This is wide outside off-stump and Rahul cuts it straight to the man at cover. Good comeback by Ashwin after going for 11 runs off the first ball. Just four singles off the last five deliveries.

LSG 32/3 in 5 overs

FOUR! Punched by Hooda through the point and cover region for another boundary as Boult continues from around the wicket.

Boult has now hit Rahul on the helmet with a nasty bouncer, prompting the physio to come out again. FOUR! Rahul responds with a boundary next ball, lifting a fuller delivery over extra-cover. Driven for a single through cover-point by Rahul to end the over.

LSG 22/3 in 4 overs

Burger continues. OUT! Badoni holes out at mid-off and Lucknow is in all sorts of trouble. There was nothing in that shot and Badoni was a little too early into it. SIX! Deepak Hooda comes in and is off the mark in style, ramping a short ball for a maximum over deep third. FOUR! This is lucky for Hooda. Short one again and the ball flies off the top edge as he looked to cut it square of the wicket. Punched by Rahul on the off-side and an excellent stop inside the circle. Rahul moves to 2 off 7 balls.

Ayush Badoni c Jos Buttler b Nandre Burger 1 (5b)

LSG 11/2 in 3 overs

Nasty bouncer! Boult’s short stuff has hit Padikkal’s helmet, which needs to replacement after the guard flew off. The physio is out for a routine concussion check. OUT! Ayush Badoni is the next man in. Badoni takes a single off the last ball of the over after getting a feel of the conditons with three dot balls in a row.

Devdutt Padikkal b Trent Boult 0 (3b)

LSG 10/1 in 2 overs

Nandre Burger from the other end, on his IPL debut. And KL Rahul almost chops onto his stumps trying to cut a delivery that’s too close to his body. Three dot balls in a row as Rahul looks a bit hurried by Burger’s pace. FOUR LEG-BYES! Too straight and this goes off Rahul’s pads for four extra runs. Well-directed bouncer and Rahul fends it off to deep third-man for a couple. Good first over in the IPL for Burger, who has bowled at a good pace consistently.

LSG 4/1 in 1 over

Shimron Hetmyer has been substituted by Rajasthan Royals for Nandre Burger, who comes in as Impact Player. KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock will open the batting.

Trent Boult with the new ball. FOUR! De Kock starts off with a boundary down the ground off the second ball of the innings. Cut away as Boult offers some width outside off and this is well fielded at point. Punched off the backfoot to the point fielder again by De Kock. OUT! This ball is going down leg-side but De Kock has flicked this in the air and straight to the man behind deep square-leg. Devdutt Padikkal is the new man in, up against his former team.

Quinton de Kock c Nandre Burger b Trent Boult 4 (5b 1x4)

LSG needs 194 runs to win

KL Rahul after the toss

Would have batted first, thinks pitch won’t change much. Happy to be back on the field. Injuries have become my best friend in the last two years, but I’m trying to do my best when I get my chances. Pretty much the same team combination as last year. QDK, Stoinis, Pooran and Naveen will be the overseas players. Shamar will hopefully get a go later on.

Sanju Samson after the toss!

It’s a good wicket to bat on, okay to do both, but they have different combinations they want to try out. Coming back to Jaipur sends a positive vibe. Lot of youngsters in the team have become superstars in the last ten months, it’s great. Almost the same team, Parag will come in at No. 4. Three foreign players - Powell might come in as impact sub.

Toss Update!

Sanju Samson wins the toss and elects to bat first.
