Jake Fraser-McGurk

Jake Fraser-McGurk raced his way to scoring the fastest fifty for DC in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The youngster got to the landmark off a mere 15 balls in the match against Sunrisers on Saturday, April 20 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Earlier, the record was held by Chris Morris, who notched a 17-ball fifty against the now defunct Gujarat Lions in 2016 at the same venue.

Rishabh Pant still holds the record for the fastest fifty by an Indian batter for DC in IPL history. He made the record against MI back in March 2019 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Prithvi Shaw and Tristan Stubbs also racked up fifties off 18 and 19 balls.

Fraser-McGurk shining bright

Ever since he came in as a replacement of Lungi Ngidi, Fraser-McGurk has shown why he is deemed as one of the most promising batters going around in world cricket. In 3 games in IPL 2024, the right-handed batter has racked up 140 runs at an average of 46.66 and a strike-rate of 222.22 with two half-centuries.

In the game against SRH, he came out firing on all cylinders after DC were asked to chase down 267. He scored 65 runs off 18 balls with the help of 5 fours and 7 sixes. After David Warner and Shaw departed early, Fraser-McGurk took the attack to the opposition bowlers.

He was also involved in a partnership of 84 runs for the third wicket with Abhishek Porel. It’s also pertinent to note that he also holds the record for the fastest hundred in List A cricket off 29 balls.
