JAKARTA – The U.S. Mission to Indonesia, together with the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, launched a new phase of the U.S.-Indonesia 75th anniversary celebration this week with the inaugural “Diplomats Go to Campus” events in Surabaya and Malang.  The events coincided with the launch of a photography contest entitled “Elevated Partnership: A Glimpse into 75 Years of U.S.-Indonesia Partnership,” with submissions open to citizens of both countries.  Bilateral activities throughout 2024, under the banner of “Diversity, Democracy, Prosperity,” celebrate the enduring bond between the United States and Indonesia towards fostering a deeper understanding of shared values and aspirations.

“Our on-campus events with Indonesian students are celebrating the deep-rooted friendship and partnership between our two nations,” said U.S. Embassy Spokesperson Michael D. Quinlan.  “People-to-people ties and cross-cultural understanding are the heart of that relationship, and we already see this shining through in the photograph submissions.”

The “Diplomats Go to Campus” series embodies the spirit of people-to-people diplomacy, bringing diplomats from the U.S. Mission to Indonesia and Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to university campuses across Indonesia, fostering dialogue, engagement, and collaboration with the next generation of leaders.  The inaugural events were held at Universitas Airlangga in Surabaya on April 24, and Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang on April 25.  The next two events will be held at Universitas Hasanuddin Makassar on April 29, and Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar on April 30, with later iterations coming in Medan, Bandung, and more.
