DC youngster Jake Fraser-McGurk slammed an incredible fifty while playing against SRH in the Indian Premier League on Saturday, 20 April. Fraser-McGurk reached the milestone in just 15 balls in a sensational counter-attacking knock while chasing 267 runs against the Pat Cummins side. Fraser-McGurk's innings led former England cricketer Michael Vaughan to laud the batter and back him for a place in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Fraser-McGurk has impressed in his maiden stint in the Indian Premier League. Signed as a replacement player by the Delhi franchise, Fraser-McGurk hit a fifty in his very first game. The batter has impressed one and all with his sheer ability to hit the ball for a boundary and has continued that run in his third straight game.

JAKE FRASER-MCGURK'S FIFTY

Jake Fraser-McGurk etched his name into the IPL record books at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday. The Australian prodigy smashed the fastest fifty for DC in IPL history, achieving this milestone in just 15 balls during a high-octane clash against SRH. This feat surpassed the previous record held by Chris Morris, who scored a 17-ball fifty against the now-defunct Gujarat Lions in 2016 at the same venue.

Stepping in as a replacement for the injured Lungi Ngidi, Fraser-McGurk has quickly proven his mettle as one of the most exciting young talents in international cricket. In his debut IPL season in 2024, he has already amassed 140 runs from just three games, boasting an impressive average of 46.66 and a striking rate of 222.22, including two fifties.

During the match against SRH, where DC faced a daunting target of 267, Fraser-McGurk unleashed a barrage of shots right from the outset. He blazed his way to 65 runs off merely 18 balls, decorated with five boundaries and seven towering sixes. His explosive innings came at a crucial time after early dismissals of teammates David Warner and Shaw, demonstrating his ability to take control under pressure.

Fraser-McGurk also stitched together a vital 84-run partnership with Abhishek Porel for the third wicket, further stabilising the innings. Notably, his prowess isn't confined to the T20 format; he also holds the record for the fastest century in List A cricket, which he achieved in just 29 balls, showcasing his exceptional batting skills across formats.
