Sameer Rizvi started his IPL career in some style as the Chennai Super Kings youngster hit a massive six off Gujarat Titans spinner Rashid Khan on his first ball of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at Chepauk on Tuesday. Rizvi, who came out to bat ahead of MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja in the 19th over, made his debut batting appearance in the IPL after securing an impressive Rs 8.4 crore deal. Rizvi had a dream start striking two sixes in his first four deliveries and marking his arrival in style.

Rizvi excelled in his first challenge of the IPL 2024, which was facing Rashid Khan. With confidence in his stride, Rizvi executed a perfect sweep, sending the ball soaring over the boundary for a six. Rizvi took on one of the world's finest T20 bowlers and claimed 14 runs off him. While he showcased this skill in the Uttar Pradesh T20 league, witnessing it at this elite level was truly remarkable.

When Rizvi's name was announced in the auction room, franchises started bidding aggressively. Starting at a base price of Rs 20 lakh, Rizvi's price skyrocketed after CSK initiated the bidding process, followed by Gujarat Titans. The two teams went back and forth. The bid quickly reached Rs 1 crore, then exceeded it. Neither team wanted to back down, so they fought until the end. CSK held on to Rizvi and paid a whopping Rs 8.40 crore.

CHENNAI POST 206 for 6

Rizvi's cameo with excellent knocks by Shivam Dube, Rachin Ravindra, and Ruturaj Gaikwad helped Chennai Super Kings set a commanding total of 206/6 in 20 overs. The CSK openers laid a strong foundation, while the middle-order batsmen capitalized on the opportunity, maintaining the momentum and building a substantial score. Having opted to bat first, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra launched into action right from the outset, swiftly amassing 62 runs for the opening partnership. However, Rashid Khan broke through the defenses, dismissing Rachin for a well-made 46 runs in the final over of the powerplay.

Ajinkya Rahane took his place at number three, partnering with Ruturaj, but Rahane's innings today was short-lived, managing only a 12-run contribution at a run-a-ball rate. Meanwhile, Ruturaj continued his fine form, although he fell agonizingly short of his half-century, just four runs shy.
