Man Utd 1 Wrexham 3: David McDonnell's verdict

Scott McTominay is ready to wait until the end of the summer transfer window before deciding whether or not to move on from Manchester United.

The 26-year-old Scotland international is keen on playing regular football but will have to compete with Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Mason Mount for a spot in United's midfield. The homegrown star was also the subject of an enquiry from West Ham this week as the Londoners seek a replacement for Declan Rice.

Manchester United still view McTominay as an important member of their squad and value him at around £40million: a sum that has deterred interest from The Hammers. That doesn't necessarily mean, though, that McTominay will stay put at Old Trafford.

McTominay is understood to be open to the idea of moving elsewhere to play on a regular basis, and The Telegraph have reported that the midfielder is in no rush to make a final decision over his long-term future.

It is claimed that McTominay is willing to bide his time until the end of the transfer window when he will be able to take stock of his situation: a move that would allow him to take into account how often he is utilised by Erik ten Hag during the early weeks of the new Premier League campaign.

Although Manchester United's £40m price tag has deterred interest from West Ham for now, McTominay has attracted interest from other top-flight clubs in the past, including Newcastle.

Ten Hag is eager to complete more transfer business before the September deadline after wrapping up deals for Mount and Andre Onana, who linked up with United last week.

The Dutchman has his sights set on signing a new striker with Atalanta hotshot Rasmus Hojlund at the top of his wishlist. However, United will have to raise additional funds if they are to find the £60m sum that it could take to prise the Denmark international away from the Serie A outfit.

With that in mind, Manchester United are expected to step up efforts to offload a handful of fringe players in the coming weeks, with Anthony Elanga the first to complete his Old Trafford exit.

The highly-rated Sweden international, who enjoyed a fine breakthrough campaign under Ralf Rangnick, has linked up with Nottingham Forest in a £15m deal after making just five league starts during Ten Hag's reign.

Dean Henderson is expected to follow Elanga out the door amid interest from Nottingham Forest, where he spent last season on loan. Fred and Harry Maguire have also been the subject of interest from rival clubs and would be given the green light to move on.
