COFFEE COUNTY, Ala (WDHN) — An Elba man is behind bars on a hefty bond after Coffee County Deputies say he threw drugs out the window of his car during a chase.

According to the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, on Thursday, deputies attempted to pull over 47-year-old Alfred Tremayne Purvis on outstanding felony warrants; however, Purvis fled, and a chase ensued.

County jail records show Purvis was wanted on four counts of drug trafficking.

Coffee County Sheriff Scott Byrd says that during the chase, Purvis began throwing multiple bags of drugs from his car before pulling into the driveway of a home and surrendering.

Purvis was arrested on four counts of drug trafficking, two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Felony Attempting to Elude, and Tampering with Physical Evidence. He is being held on a combined $275,000 bond.
