Mangaluru: After a gap of 2.5 years, Mangalore University (

MU

) has decided to promote eligible

non-teaching staff

to various vacant posts. This decision was made during a recent syndicate meeting, and

promotion

will be done as per govt directions that include seniority, roster system, and availability of vacant posts.
According to one of the syndicate members, earlier promotions of non-teaching positions were done without considering govt norms but as per the whims and fancies of senior officials.

However, this time the MU has decided to go by the rule book for the promotion of the non-teaching staff, the member said.
K Raju Mogaveera, registrar of MU, told TOI that the last promotion of non-teaching staff was done in October 2021. “As per govt direction, seniority and other criteria should be considered while giving promotions. The same is followed this time, and seniority will be considered from 1978. A seniority list will be prepared first, followed by the number of vacant posts and the eligibility of each candidate who is due for promotion. The audit report will also be considered for the same. The entire process will take around a month. The seniority list will be uploaded in another two or three weeks on the official MU website, and if there are any objections, they can be brought to the attention of MU senior officials,” said Mogaveera.
The promotion of the non-teaching staff is due for the posts of assistant registrar, superintendent, deputy registrar, first division assistant, and others. “The promotion will be given only if the posts are vacant and the candidate is eligible,” stressed Mogaveera, adding roster system will be followed.

Jayaraj Amin, vice-chancellor (in-charge) of Mangalore University, said that the decision to promote eligible non-teaching staff is a syndicate decision. The process has started, and a committee has been formed to oversee the process. A special meeting of the committee was held on Wednesday.
